There is something about purchasing a brand new handbag that feels absolutely amazing.  I've been on a buying ban for six months now; especially with handbags. I have a large collection of satchels and bags and there was no room for another. I also cut back spending on clothing, makeup, and generally everything that was not related to food and groceries.  Only if I ran out of something such as deodorant did I make a repurchase. Over the six months I also used up all of my shower gels, body lotions, and exfoliators. No one really needs to collect five shower gels at one time. I used up nearly everything that had collected over the past year. Even if I didn't love the scent of a product as I did the day I bought it, I still used it up. With a buying ban in place, I gradually started to feel more organized. The shelves in my bathroom were no longer clogged with products and it was easier to clean all of the surfaces. When it comes to beauty products, especially, from now on I will only buy a new product when I've run out of its predascor.

When it came to clothing, my self-implemented shopping ban was a bit more difficult. I love browsing the new seasons releases and it was hard not to snap up a skirt or two I adored on my favorite fashion sites. Nearly every day I'd torment myself by looking at fashion and shopping sites so I decided to quit logging on and I only read news sites for a while. I caught up with world news that is way more important than a new pair of shoes. If I started thinking about shopping, then I'd pick up a book and force myself to read a few pages. I'm not sure when it happened, but I'd gotten out of the habit of reading. Probably because I've become so wrapped up in my smartphone and apps such as Instagram. Always being tied to an electronic device is a dangerous path. We get into the habit of constantly checking our phone and updates on social media. I definitely need to learn to take several hours out of the day and put my phone in another room to separate myself from it. I'm sure there are millions of people around the globe who feel the same.

It was interesting, after the six month ban lifted, I actually didn't really like shopping as much as I thought. I walked through my favorite department store and though I browsed over many new lovely items, I didn't purchase a thing. I did buy gifts for friends and family, but that was it. If I needed a new beauty product, I still waited until I ran out of something. I no longer bought something unless it was completely gone or it was a household item or food and beverages.

Yesterday Olivia Palermo was spotted carrying the most amazing handbag.  She was photographed and the picture was distributed all over the globe.  From well-known fashion magazines to blogs and style sites, the handbag was viewed over two billion times.  The picture captured her leaving Franck etFils department store in Paris with several shopping bags and a grey and black handbag.  There was much debate on fashion websites where the handbag came from and who designed it.  On Instagram the same question arose.  It’s such a massive style platform that it makes sense there would be chatter amongst fashionables concerning the origin of the handbag.  The very next day, Anna Wintour was spotted carrying a similar handbag only hers was navy and black.  Again, this caused an avalanche of inquiries.

Two days later on Instagram, someone figured out the label of the two handbags.  Leave it to a fashionable on Instagram to solve it.  The Anna’s and Olivia’s handbags were from PLIA Designs.  I looked them up online.  PLIA Designs makes a collection of designer handbags, purses, satchels, and leather goods.  I had to have this style of handbag immediately.  It’s not that the handbag is overly designed; in fact it’s the opposite.  It is understand and timeless.  I saw similar looking handbags on PLIA Designs website.  The style is a satchel handbag, but it seemed to be a larger size compared to what the others were photographed carrying.  I emailed the company not knowing if I’d hear back or not.  You know what I mean, you never know if a business will reply.  A lot of companies say it’s all about the customer and how they have superb customer service.  But when you test them, you realize their customer service isn’t so amazing after all.  PLIA Designs surprised me.  I received an email reply from James within six hours.  He stated that the satchel handbags photographed were a new style and not on the website yet.  However, they would be up within a week. 

The next week James emailed me again and said the new style was online.  He knew which ones I liked and held one of each aside as they sell out fast and there is often a waiting list.  Since this was a new, smaller size and shown already in numerous magazines, he didn’t even know if they would have enough stock to last several days.   When I logged on, sure enough, they were already sold out.  Thankfully I would receive mine in the grey and navy.  I cannot wait to get my hands on these popular PLIA Designs designer handbags.

Sunday Swagger

It has been an incredibly long week.  I’ve been to two different countries for work and the assignments seem endless.  Not only are the hours long at the office, but several days this week I’ve had to take work home with me in the evenings.  It seems as if I haven’t had any time to myself.  I love my job and being in the field of fashion and technology, but sometimes I need some downtime.  I suppose that is what weekends are for.  I made certain by Friday I had any loose ends all tied up so there was nothing to work on Saturday or Sunday.  I’m used to working on new pieces and doing writing over certain weekends, but this particular one I wanted to simply rest and do some catching up with dear friends.

Friday evening I turned in rather early.  Ten o’clock to be exact.  I didn’t do any writing.  Only some light reading and watching TV to catch up on the week’s news.  Saturday morning I woke up feeling refreshed, but still a little tired.  I planned out what I’d wear and carry.  I was going shopping later with one of my best friends.  We would then meet up with others for dinner at a new restaurant that is nearly impossible to get a reservation.  It was easy to decide what to carry.  I would use my beloved satchel handbag by PLIA Designs.  It is the perfect size and fits so much inside; including my iPad.  Whether it’s work or play, I’m never without my iPad.  I love that all of my PLIA Designs designer handbags have several tech pockets inside.  I use two different smartphones and they are easily stored inside these handbags because they have more than one phone pocket.

In fact, I’m going to email PLIA Designs and see if they will ever make copies to sell.  The back of this laptop bag is a hydrangea bush.  The hydrangea bush grows after Higgins hops away.  I also love that the sides and trim are made of real leather.

The macaron laptop case is so cute!  I LOVE macarons and they really come to life in artwork.  Again, this print looks like a piece of art hanging in a museum.  The stacks of macarons are so colorful.  It’s as if the artist went to Paris with her canvas and painted freehand in a bakery.  And you know these are called macarons, not macaroons.  There is no need, even if you are not French, to spell with with two “o’s.”  In the United States a macaroon is a totally different cookie.  Again, this beautiful laptop bag is trimmed in luxurious black leather.  The leather is Italian calfskin.  I know from my years in the fashion industry, this sort of leather does not come cheap.  It’s hard to find and ultra expensive.
